Many scholars consider Ayurveda to be the oldest healing science. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life”. Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing”. It stemmed from the ancient Vedic culture and was taught for many thousands of years in an oral tradition from accomplished masters in their disciples. Although some of this knowledge was recorded in print, much of it is now sadly lost. The principles of many of the natural healing systems now familiar in the west have their roots in Ayurveda, including Homeopathy.

Lara Jane, a fully qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, is available for consultations and offers treatments in the Yoga Life Space therapy room.

Marmas are vital junction points, energy fields on the body where stress tends to accumulate. They are connected through a complex system of innumerable Nadis, subtle sound channels, and together they govern all bodily functions.
Marma therapy is an Ayurvedic, holistic body treatment using specific medicated oils. Light to moderate pressure on the marmas – sometimes even attention alone – opens the marmas and automatically clears them to allow energy from deep inside to flow more freely, removing blockages and restoring balance. Marma therapy brings inner tranquillity, primarily on the level of consciousness and then on the body and its organs.

Shirodhara – Oil Flow

Shirodhara is an ancient Ayurvedic therapy. Warm oil (or other liquid) is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead or ‘Ajna marma’ (chakra), an area where nerves are highly concentrated. The pressure of the oil onto the forehead creates a vibration. The oil saturates the forehead and scalp and penetrates the nervous system. Shirodhara cleanses the mind and has a soothing effect on the senses, enabling us to let go of negative thoughts and emotions. The gentle pressure and soothing warmth of the oil allow the body, mind and nervous system to experience a deep state of rest, similar to meditation, reducing stress and helping with insomnia. It is considered a restorative therapy for all psychosomatic disorders.
Please note: You will need a full consultation appointment before Shirodhara can take place.
